Asakusa


On the first day of our Honey Moon, we visited Asakusa, a Tokyo district famous for the Senso-ji Temple.

Asakusa is an excellent first stop for anyone visiting Tokyo for the first time. It is a good example of the combination between modernity and tradition, which easily summarizes what you can find in other places of the city: it is quite striking to emerge from the subway "temple type" entrance and find yourself sorrounded by cars, skyscrapers and neon signs.
El primer sitio que visitamos en Japón fue Asakusa, un distrito de Tokyo famoso por el templo Senso-ji allí ubicado.

Asakusa es una primera parada excelente para todo aquel que esté visitando Tokyo por primera vez, puesto que resulta una buena combinación de modernidad y tradición que te puede resumir con bastante facilidad lo que puedes encontrarte en otros sitios de la ciudad: llama mucho la atención salir de la parada de metro "tipo templo" a un cruce lleno de coches con rascacielos en el horizonte y edificios con carteles de neón.














We arrived at Asakusa in the early morning, that's why there were no people in the streets and the stores were closed.

In order to arrive at Senso-ji Temple, you first have to pass through the Kaminarimon Gate (Thunder Gate). This is a symbolic place where you can take some typical tourist photos. The bad news were the central lamp was undergoing restoration by then and we could not see it in all its glory :(
Llegamos bastante temprano, por lo que no había demasiada gente por la calle y las tiendas de las galerías laterales aún estaban cerradas.

Para poder llegar al templo Senso-ji, primero hay que pasar por la puerta Kaminarimon (puerta del trueno), donde te puedes hacer una fotografía bastante típica. Lo malo es que cuando nosotros fuimos estaban restaurando la lámpara central, por lo que no pudimos verla en todo su esplendor :(


Nakamise Street is behind the Kaminarimon Gate. Nakamise is a marketplace plenty of tourist stores, but the souvenirs are not expensive. Almost anything can be found there, so it's a great place to buy souvenirs to you, your family and friends.

As you can see in the pictures, Nakamise Street was almost empty when we arrive as we get there quite early. Later we could see its lively atmosphere full of students, but we forgot to take photos.


Tras la puerta Kaminarimon se extiende el mercado Nakamise. A pesar de estar lleno de tiendas turísticas, los precios de los souvenirs no son demasiado elevados y la verdad es que se encuentra casi de todo, por lo que es un buen sitio para comprar recuerdos y llevar algún detalle a la familia y a los amigos.

En las fotografías veréis el mercado un poco desierto, pero cuando llegamos era muy pronto y no estaba abierto, y al volvernos se nos olvidó tomar más fotografías para retratar el ambiente.



We found the Hozomon Gate and the Asakusa Shrine at the end of the Nakamise Street.

If you take a look in these photos, you will see the central lamp that was missing in the Kaminarimon Gate. Breathtaking, isn't it?
Al final del Mercado Nakamise, nos encontramos con la puerta Hozomon y la pagoda de Asakusa.

Si os fijáis en la foto, veréis la lámpara central que faltaba en la puerta Kaminarimon. Espectacular, ¿verdad?




After that not so long walk, we arrived at Senso-ji temple.

First of all, we tried the traditional Omikuji (fortunes written on strips of paper). Then we purify ourselves cleaning our mouth and hands with cool water and breathing incense smoke. Those are common rites when visiting a temple.
Y tras este no tan largo paseo, por fin el templo Senso-ji.

Lo primero que hicimos fue probar con los puestos tradicionales de Omikuji o papelitos de la fortuna. Después, nos purificamos limpiándonos las manos y la boca con el agua fresca y respirando el humo del incienso, rituales comunes que se realizan al acudir a un templo.





Finally, we enjoyed the views and the gardens. We were a little confused by what seemed to be a school... if someone has any further information on this, we will be very grateful to get the mystery solved...
Finalmente, disfrutamos de las vistas y de los jardines. Nos extrañó también que en pleno terreno del templo hubiera lo que parecía ser una escuela... si alguien tiene más información al respecto, le agradeceré que nos resuelva el misterio...

As could not have been otherwise, we tried our first ever japanese drink vending machine there. There were a wide range of options for all kinds: hot drinks, cool drinks, tea, coffe, soft drinks, soda... in every conceivable flavour... I tried a Red & Green Tea... Yummy!
Y como no podía ser de otra manera, probamos nuestra primera máquina expendedora de bebidas allí. Había opciones de todo tipo: caliente, frío, té, café, refrescos... de todos los sabores imaginables... Yo probé un té con manzana roja y verde... ¡delicioso!

Layering, What's that?


We're going to change the subject today and talk about one of the things I like the most: the skincare routine. Who do not want to have perfect skin? We all want to look gorgeous at any age with impeccable skin that shows no signs of dullness, fatigue or premature aging. Well, as impossible as it seem, there is a way!

To be perfectly honest, I have never been one of those girls overly worried about make up and cosmetics. I've been this way until I started working in the sector. So, I discovered the advantages and benefits of the well known Korean Cosmetics which results are translated into the smooth porcelain skin that you can see in every K-Pop King and Queen.
Cambiando un poco la temática que he ido tratando en las entradas anteriores, quiero volver a uno de los temás que más me apasionan: la rutina de cuidado facial. Y es que todas queremos tener el secreto para conseguir una piel perfecta, sin signos de fatiga, estrés o de la edad. Y, aunque parezca imposible, ¡existe!

Si he de ser sincera, nunca he sido una chica excesivamente preocupada por el maquillaje ni la cosmética hasta que comencé a trabajar en el sector, y tras más de cuatro años trabajando dentro del mismo, he descubierto de primera mano las bondades y beneficios de la tan maravillosa y archiconocida cosmética coreana, cuyos resultados se traducen en esas pieles de porcelana que pueden verse en tod@s l@s reyes y reinas del K-Pop.

Asian cosmetics brings visible results because it is nourished of user experience and it is oriented toward providing an efficient response to real skin concerns.

Such and approach is completely different to the principles on which Western cosmetic is based, and is supported by the following pillars:

  • Beauty is health, your skin can not be beautiful if it is unhealthy.
  •  The best treatment is prevention, there is no need to wait for the signs of aging to appear.
  • The most important steps in skincare are cleansing and moisturizing, if this needs are not covered, no active ingredient would properly work.

The following chart shows the Layering routing step by step, in which each layer helps set the former and facilitates the absorption of the next one. This way, the effects of the active ingredientes are maximised.
La cosmética asiática funciona porque se nutre de la experiencia de las usuarias y porque está orientada a dar respuesta a las necesidades reales de cada tipo de piel.

Este enfoque es completamente diferente a los principios que fundamentan la cosmética occidental, y se sostiene en los siguientes pilares:

  • La belleza es salud, una piel no puede ser bonita si no está sana.
  • El mejor tratamiento es la prevención, no hay que esperar a que aparezcan los signos de la edad para tratarlos.
  • Los pasos más importantes son la limpieza y la hidratación, si estas necesidades no están cubiertas, ningún principcio activo podrá funcionar correctamente.
  • Todas las pieles tiene un nivel de agua (hidratación vs deshidratación) y un nivel de grasa (piel seca vs piel grasa), por lo que se deben tratar siempre ambos niveles.
  • La piel tiene una capacidad y ritmo de absorción determinadas, lo que afecta a la cantidad de producto que se puede aplicar y al modo de aplicarlo.
  • La hidratación que aplicamos por la mañana se evapora de la piel a lo largo del día.

La técnica de Layering nace para ofrecer el tratamiento más adecuado que se rija por estas premisas, permitiendo una gran flexibilidad puesto que puede adaptarse según las necesidades de cada piel en cada momento y circustancia concreta puesto que el estado de nuestra piel no es estable y suele variar a lo largo del año o afectado por agentes tanto externos como internos.

En el esquema siguiente podréis ver el paso a paso del Layering, en el que cada capa ayuda a fijar la anterior y facilita la absorción de la siguiente, de forma que se maximiza la actuación de los principios activos.

Akihabara


As recommended by a couple of friends who travelled to Japan prior to us, we stayed at Hotel Edoya, a Ryokan about 5 minute walk away from Akihabara district, and it allowed us to wander around during our staying.

Siguiendo la recomendación de unos amigos que viajaron antes que nosotros a Japón, nos hospedamos en el Hotel Edoya, un Ryokan a unos escasos 5 minutos andando del famoso distrito de Akihabara, lo que nos permitió pasear por sus calles todas las noches durante nuestra estancia.

Akihabara is known mainly for being a major shopping center for electronics goods. It is also famous for being an "Otaku Paradise" where you can buy video games, anime/manga goods and computer goods. Full of shops stretching out sight, brand stores are aligned to one another in the main street while smaller stores go unnoticed in secondary buildings and streets disguised as housing buildings. But do not fool yourself as the latter are the most interesting ones and the place where you will find the best bargains!

Akihabara es muy conocida por tratarse de una zona comercial de productos electrónicos. Es muy famosa también por ser un paraíso "Otaku" donde se pueden comprar video juegos y merchandising de anime y manga además de otros artículos para ordenadores. Con tiendas hasta donde alcanza la vista, las marcas se alinean una tras otra en la calle principal mientras que las tiendas más pequeñas pasan desapercibidas en edificios y calles secundarias, confundiéndose con viviendas particulares. Pero no te engañes: ¡estas últimas son las más interesantes y donde podrás encontrar las mejores gangas!

It would appear that Akihabara never sleeps just because the activity starts precisely in the evening and lasts until dawn: you can see neon lights everywhere, listen to the music around you, shop until the early hours of the morning and choose from a wide range of activities and entertainment. as a matter of fact, it took us a few days to identify the streets we crossed every morning to get to the subway station as the same streets we wandered at night: we were walking around Akihabara several times a day without even realising it!

Da la sensación de que Akihabara es un barrio que nunca duerme porque precisamente por la tarde y cuando anochece es cuando se ve más activa, llena de luces y música por todas partes, con muchas actividades para hacer y muchas opciones de entretenimiento, permaneciendo las tiendas abiertas incluso hasta la madrugada. De hecho, nos costó unos días identificar las calles que cruzábamos por las mañanas para llegar a la estación como las mismas que paseabamos por la noche: ¡estábamos cruzando Akihabara todos los días varias veces sin ni siquiera darnos cuenta!


Visiting the Akihabara shops is like being in another world. The merchandise is displayed in the most unsuspected places and there is a surprising amount of goods available for sale that it is really difficult to tell them appart: you will find something new each time you look at the shelves. Also, I was shocked by the narrow aisles (especially in the smaller stores) difficult to traverse even one person at a time, but the strangest thing was that no one crashed.

 Pasear por las tiendas de Akihabara es como entrar en un mundo nuevo totalmente diferente a lo que estamos acostumbrados aquí en España. La mercancía se expone en los lugares más insospechados y hay tanta cantidad de productos disponibles a la venta que es difícil distinguirlos o poder verlos tranquilamente: cada vez que mires verás algo nuevo que no habías visto antes. Por otra parte, los pasillos son muy estrechos (sobre todo en las tiendas más pequeñas) y cuesta caminar incluso una persona sola, pero extrañamente nadie se choca con nadie

But not everything was shopping and gambling machines: we tried in Akihabara the best ramen in the world! Tasty and cheap.

Pero no todo eran tiendas y recreativas ¡En Akihabara probamos el mejor ramen del mundo! De un sabor delicioso y un precio económico.


Although the front can someway mislead consumers, the interior is very welcoming and the service is really quick. The order is placed through a machine at the door, so you must pay in advance and then deliver your order ticket to a waiter. Also, as explained to us later by another customer who kindly offered to translate, we could have two free refills.

Aunque la fachada pueda engañar, el interior resulta muy acogedor y el servicio es muy rápido. La comanda se realiza en una máquina a la entrada, donde pagas el pedido y entras al local con un ticket que entregas a los camareros para que preparen tu plato. Además, con cada consumición dispones de dos recargas gratuitas de ramen en tu bol (de esto nos enteramos por otro comensal muy simpático que se prestó a ser nuestro intérprete y nos explicó el funcionamiento)


We hope that we can find again that ramen restaurant next time we go to Japan!
